Around 700 million people in 43 countries suffer today from water scarcity.
By 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world's population could be living under water stressed conditions. With the existing climate change scenario, almost half the world's population will be living in areas of high water stress by 2030, including between 75 million and 250 million people in Africa. In addition, water scarcity in some arid and semi-arid places will displace between 24 million and 700 million people. Sub-Saharan Africa has the largest number of water-stressed countries of any region.
AFAINT In Action
In 2008, AFAINT installed a water tank for the Kedowa School for the Deaf in Kericho, Kenya. There are approximately 90 children that attend this school and all but the head master are deaf. These children face many difficulties other than their hearing, such as social stigma because many of them are HIV+ or come from HIV+ families. These children were in need of a clean water supply because their only source was from a dirty well.
Kendu Tank
AFAINT embarked on another journey to build its second water tank in Kenya. This 10,000 liter water tank was placed in a vital part of the Kendu Bay village where there is a great need for clean water because it has been ravaged by poverty and HIV/AIDS for decades. The "Art For Water Campaign 2" was a Facebook fundraiser where AFAINT founder matched every donation received dollar for dollar!
Kenya Water Program
The Uganda Water Program is AFAINTs newest initiative in Uganda. Uganda is plentiful in terms of rainwater but the peoples lack of infrastructure keeps them from harnessing their resources to its fullest potential. AFAINT is building their water program similar to their Kenya Water Program where we build water tanks on important village structures so the people dont have to walk miles to unclean watering holes to fetch water. This process of fetching water can be up to a 5 mile journey and is extremely troublesome for the elderly and young children. Though the rainy season delivers plenty of usable water, the extremity of the rainy season makes it problematic for the villagers to fetch the water in such muddy treacherous conditions. AFAINT hopes to place these large water tanks strategically in areas of the villages to maximize potential and reduce the labor in retrieving water for daily use.
Our latest water project took place in the Mpigi District of Uganda. The tank itself is 10,000 liters and attached to a tin roof by a four-corner gutter system. This gutter system can be made of metal or plastic materials, which capture and streams the water runoff into a pipe attached to the top of the tank. At the top of the tank is a large opening with a fine mesh screen to keep debris out. The water collected in these types of tanks is for multi-purpose use such as bathing, cooking, cleaning and drinking. We prefer our tanks to operate this way becuase of the lack of plumbing , sanitation, and water supply in the village. In the future we hope to expand these tanks to other parts of Uganda such as the Kisoro District. To donate towards our future water projects in Uganda, please visit our Donate page.
Uganda Water Program
-World Health Organization states there are 300 to 500 million clinical cases of malaria each year resulting in 1.5 to 2.7 million deaths.
-In 2008, malaria caused nearly one million deaths, mostly among African children
-In Uganda alone -- 9,775,318 cases / 6,296 actual deaths

The Mpigi Walk has been completed! Team Uganda arrived in Mpigi on Aug. 23rd 2011 and was able to complete a variety of humanitarian efforts.
These efforts were:
~A new 75 liter water tank for an elderly couple that was disabled
~School supplies for children
~Clothes and shoes for villagers

Every visit AFAINT takes to any African country they hold the Village Walk. On the Village Walk we walk through an area or village and perform randoms acts of kindness. They range from replacing a old straw roof for an impoverished family to paying off burdensome medical debts.

AFAINT has aligned itself with the Proline Soccer Academy. PSA is a school of excellence that was started in 2006 with the principal aim of uplifting the standards of the game in Uganda while at the same time, giving talented, under privileged boys a chance to make something of their lives. Over 90% of the above mentioned kids are disadvantaged. Not only do they improve the standards of the game in the country, they also improve the livelihoods of the boys and their families. There are approx. 325 boys currently enrolled at PSA and most of these boys needs are catered for exclusively by the academy.
PSA is based in the industrial area of Kampala. Manchester Uniteds Rio Ferdinand is part of the cause and through his father Mr. Julian Ferdinand has become heavily involved in the setup, and operations. On his very first visit to Uganda in September 2006, Mr. Julian Ferdinand officially launched the Ferdinand Proline Soccer Academy and also became its patron.
AFAINT has become involved through the leadership of Godfrey Mugisha (Programs Director of Ugandan Affairs). Mr. Mugisha is an instructor at the academy as well as helping manage the program. He was able to help AFAINT strategize how to best help the academy which takes in Ugandan street children. AFAINT partnered with the Interact Club at Norfolk Collegiate through Lolli Marshall, a teacher at the private Norfolk school. Her students who are a part of the Interact Club were able to obtain 52 new and used soccer balls and donated them to AFAINT for PSA. AFAINT also added in another 8 brand new balls to make it an even 60! (See pics above)
Towards the end of AFAINT's visit to the Proline Soccer Academy we were able to partner with an organization known as Virgin Planet to buy and distribute new and used soccer cleats for the neediest children at the academy. Without Virgin Planet this would not have been possible. It is through partnerships like these we have been to help people in the US and Africa.
If you would like to donate for buying more soccer supplies to help these underpriviledged children simply make a donation here
and make a notation about the Proline Soccer Academy, 100% will go to your request!
Soccer Camp Program
The Odeema House Project was a project dear to our founder. Upon his visit to Kendu Bay in 07' he was asked to visit a family that has experienced tragedy, after tragedy. One of the workers who had helped build the VCT had 3 children of his own and had lost all of his siblings to AIDS. His siblings left him with 7 more children and 4,000 shillings worth of medical debt. The father of this family is a man by the name of ODEEMA whose mud home had recently collapsed. AFAINT was able to step in and build the Odeema family a new home which is pictured below.
PART 2: AFAINT founder Brandon Plain and Dir. of Operations Kristina Griffin revisited the Odeema family to see about their well being. The home that AFAINT built was still in good condition. AFAINT was able to provide funds to the family to put all their children through primary school, a few weeks of food, and a new sewing machine for Pamela Odeema. Pamela's sewing machine will help her generate income for her family!

AFAINT partnered with Tamani Africa to complete the building of a Volunteer Counseling and Testing Center for HIV in Kendu Bay, Kenya. It took approximately 11 months to complete the fundraising and building of the project. We would especially like to thank The AIDS Fund for their support in this project.
Why we built the VCT...
A 30% HIV rate in the Kendu Bay area.
HIV drugs arrived into the area, which led to an increase in the demand for VCT services.
There was only one room available for counseling.
People walked for hours and had to wait in long lines for services.
2 counselors worked for 9 months without pay to keep the previous VCT running.
What our VCT provides:
Free HIV Testing
Confidential Testing
20 minute rapid response test!
Certified trainers
Support groups

The Nyahera Feeding Program is a "Fight Against Malnutrition" campaign started by AFAINT in Kendu Bay, Kenya. The Nyahera Preschool educates approximately 90 children between the ages of 3-6 as they prepare for primary education. AFAINT feeds these children every day while they are in school with either porridge, a Kenyan staple or ugali and greens. Without support from AFAINT most of these children would not be able to gain the nutrients they need to learn.
AFAINT hopes to continue this feeding program to give these children a better quality of life and improve their education efforts. For more information about malnutrition, please see Hunger under our Mission page.
If you would like to get involved with feeding the Nyahera Preschool, you may donate here. 100% of your donation will go directly to feeding the 90 children.
